Testimonials from Hub leaders & Educators

The relaxed approach and calm setting encouraged them to open up and chat about what might be tricky to them… in order to develop their self help skills they were taught resilience through the Zones of Regulation programme.

The young people had a feeling of belonging as they identified with others in the group and recognised they were not alone with their anxieties or strong emotions. It was so rewarding to see them return in following weeks demonstrating such energy and eagerness to share experiences through the week and how strategies had helped them cope with certain strong emotional situations.

The activities provided opportunities for the young people to talk freely, share with their peers and have fun. I loved those sessions.

It was lovely to be part of Elevate Hub Chertsey. We quickly built good relationships with the young people because of the way the group was structured. One of my favourite memories was completing an ‘art for wellbeing’ activity. This involved the young person writing things about themselves in the shape of a finger print. It was a special moment as the young person really began to understand their strengths, what made them unique and enhanced their sense of worth.

Can I take this opportunity to thank you and your team for all you have done for the children at St Mary’s? They have loved the transition group and I’m told in great detail on a Wednesday lunchtime what they’ve been getting up to and how much they are looking forward to the next session.

We saw a vast improvement in most of the children that attended the First #BeOK course in Spring this year from one little girl who would not even say her name at the start to another who would not let her bag go for 2 weeks becoming happy and confident to the point that they both came to Holiday clubs in the summer and were not shy at all. It also really helped 4 children with the transition from Primary to senior school making their experience happy and positive.

This group is fundamentally about showing support and love in a safe & fun environment unlike any other they could be used to! To encourage all the children to relax and be themselves. To help them build trust and navigate what can be a difficult time for them emotionally. To give them the time and space they may need without any agenda or judgement.

As the weeks progress there is a noticeable change in the children – they open up and become more relaxed, more accepting of themselves and each other. Friendships develop and grow. Some weeks can be challenging but, we work through it together and help them understand that its perfectly ok to not be ok sometimes. We have also discovered some incredible hidden talents and abilities among them…..things that can be easily overlooked or undiscovered….simply because they are given the time and space to show it.

Receiving their ‘bags for life’ meant that we knew we were sending our students home with resources and activities to assist them and their families throughout lengthy periods of lockdown where we know some of our students are more vulnerable than others. Students were genuinely really grateful to receive these as were their parents and carers. It was clear careful thought and time had been applied to making these not only useful, but fun for the students too, helping to keep them engaged in activities that were helpful for the body and mind, supporting their wellbeing overall.

Testimonials from Parents & Pupils

He tries hard to regulate his own emotions now – it has made a huge difference.

It helped me learn how to control my temper. (pupil – Thames Ditton)

X’s confidence has blossomed, she has even started to come out of her room and join us as a family.

Elevate Life helped me by finding people who understood what I was going through and helped me find ways to deal with my anxiety and mental health problems. They helped us by giving us strategies in order to find ways through life.

My children loved the goodie bags… it was a lovely surprise. It was good to see them excited and happy again!

My son attended your group and really benefited from it. He suffers with anxiety and low self-esteem, not helped by his ADHD and sensory processing diagnosis. During the weeks he attended, his confidence grew and his anxiety levels dropped. I cannot thank you enough for giving me my little boy back.

Our daughter is very shy and becomes extremely anxious in social situations. The staff at Elevate are very supportive of her needs and it is one event each week she really looks forward to and is happy to attend.  There is never pressure for her to join in, just a kind acceptance of her difficulties.

I’m not sure I can say how truly thankful we were as a family when Elevate became part of our journey over 4 years ago, in just a few sentences. But they were part of our band of Angels that helped to carry us through a very challenging time and gave us hope and support to keep going and we didn’t feel judged or blamed, we were encouraged and uplifted and it made such a huge difference to all of us.

A young boy ‘L’ joined our group with severe social anxiety. He crept in behind his mum’s legs and didn’t speak for the first session. During the mindfulness session we dimmed the lights and he screamed, cried and ran out of the room.  Our team of wellbeing practitioners worked with him over the weeks that followed. He slowly learned techniques to manage his anxiety and likes to use ‘high five breathing’ to calm himself down. His mum now says he is a lot calmer at home as well. He now loves coming to the group and it has been amazing to see him growing in confidence week by week.
